Features

Boxes was conceived as a very simple theme, but for Boxes v. 2.0, I have added a few handy features to make the theme more flexible and user friendly.

Enjoy!

Colours

Boxes originally came with a limited choice of colours, but for Boxes v 2.0 RapidWeaver "Colour Picker" functionality has been included.

In the "Styles" palette of the "Page inspector", you can now choose your own colours for the:
  • Page background
  • Page header title
  • Sub-headers
  • Links
I have also created some house styles for the theme if you want to pick something off the peg. Click on some of the page links above to see examples of pages in different colour styles.

Menus

The Boxes menu runs along the top of the page. Submenus are now fixed and run neatly underneath the main menu.

Boxes was designed to be wide enough to accommodate around 10 items in the menu on a 1000px wide page. If you add too many menu pages, the theme starts a new menu row underneath the main menu and it best avoided in my view. Of course you can link to other pages by adding the usual hyperlinks to your content.

Page Width

With this theme I have gone for width, so Boxes comes in standard width (700px), wide (800px), super-wide (900px) and mega-ultra-super-wide (variable), so you can let your pictures rip.

CPLF

I am quite pleased with my clever "logo image in the header area" which I have dubbed the "Clever-pants Logo Feature" or the CPLF for short.

The CPLF allows you to paste a wee logo just left of your main page header title. In this instance the highly sophisticated Boxes logo is pasted there.

Find out more about the CPLF here.

Page Header Background

In addition to being able to add an extra logo in the "Page Header" with the CPLF, Boxes now comes with a transparent "Page Header" background image which allows you to add your own background picture to the "Page Header" area using a plugin like Multitool.

If you want to add an image to the "Page Header", but you don't have Multitool, you need to follow these steps:
  1. Create an image that is 145px high and that will fit your selected page width (ie. 800px for a page set to 800px wide). Save the image as a PNG file.
  2. Add the image to the page's "Assets" on the "Header" page of the "Page Inspector".
  3. Paste the following code in the "CSS" panel of the "Header" page in the "Page Inspector", replacing your image's name tag in the code.
#pageHeader {
background: url(assets/MYHEADERIMAGE.png) no-repeat;
}

Boxes Logo

You can now choose which colour Boxes logo you want use, by toggling the various options in the "Styles" palette of the "Page Inspector".

But of course the Boxes this logo is there just as a place holder for you to add your own artwork with using the CPLF.
